Purim is coming! Purim is coming!! I’m so excited about Purim coming…I bet you can’t tell! What is Purim, you say?! Welllllllllll, let me tell you!
The jolly festival of Purim is celebrated every year on the 14th of the Hebrew month of Adar (late winter/early spring). It commemorates the salvation of the Jewish people in ancient Persia from Haman’s plot “to destroy, kill and annihilate all the Jews, young and old, infants and women, in a single day,” as recorded in the Megillah (book of Esther).
There is so much that is new about these days, but it’s been a lot of fun learning about them, and figuring out what we’ll be doing as a family. Purim is going to be so much fun for us this year, as we’ve joined in with our congregation in their celebrations.
The kids and I are making groggers, and I still have to figure out what we’ll all wear to Shul that day! Their Shabbat School has made masks, which I might get mine to wear, but we’ll see. They like them as decorations more than items to have on.
I can’t wait to share what we do here at home and at Shul, for Purim.
If you have celebrated Purim before, what are you favorite memories?
